Diet culture is f''d up!

How many ‘diets’ have you been on over the years?

THE EFFECTS OF DIET CULTURE ARE SO F'D UP. I particularly love supporting women in perimenopause when the tweaks that are necessary can be so easily applied.

Working in addiction…. it is all linked.

A few years ago I foolishly ate only raw fruit for a few months, and of course I dropped fat, I also felt fantastic, but in hindsight it was overly restrictive and as I tripped into perimenopause I realised how important protein is for us, especially when we are lifting weights which we do on the Reset now.

I always aim for about 100g of protein per day. I've found this has really helped with cravings. Plus I never thought I'd say this, but educating myself with calories in and out was also a game changer.

I up my protein with fish, eggs, protein powder, nuts, seeds and very occasionally good quality organic meat.  Perimenopause has definitely affected how I digest and the lighter the better seems to work for me.

Diets often fail because they promote short-term, restrictive eating habits rather than sustainable lifestyle changes. When people drastically cut calories or eliminate entire food groups, they may see initial weight loss, but this approach is hard to maintain.

Over-restriction can lead to intense cravings, binge eating, and a negative relationship with food.

Moreover, extreme diets can slow down metabolism as the body enters "starvation mode," conserving energy and making it harder to lose weight in the long run.

This yo-yo effect—losing weight, then regaining it—can be harmful, leading to feelings of failure and frustration.

Instead of focusing on restriction, a balanced approach that emphasises nutritious,  colourful, enjoyable foods and moderation is key. I found that a month of calorie counting actually helped me get a better picture on where I was under or over consuming.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Also not classing any food as bad, but just noticing how it affects my mood and energy levels has really helped.

Being in a calorie deficit is the only way to drop unwanted weight, I found it better to work this out over a whole week rather than day to day.

This allows for the fluctuations of hormones and appetite too.

You can use a calorie calculator from brilliant influencers like James Smith at no extra charge or obligation.

By developing healthy, sustainable habits, you  can achieve lasting well-being without the physical and emotional toll of constant dieting.

On the Rodina Reset there is  an EAT THE RAINBOW WhatsApp group, which is just a no obligation sharing group where members simply share photos and recipes for  inspiration of their colourful meals!

The pic below is a tiny screen shot of a week as a Reset participant whatsapp group.
