Why I no longer teach yoga in the way I was taught to

As a yoga teacher who has taken an unconventional path, I've witnessed firsthand the profound healing benefits of yoga on both the body and the mind. In today's world, where stress and anxiety seem to be ever-present, nurturing the mind-body connection has become paramount in achieving holistic well-being.

Yoga has been practiced for centuries, revered for its ability to promote flexibility, strength, and balance. However, the perception of yoga, particularly regarding extreme flexibility, has evolved significantly over time. In the past, there was a tendency to focus solely on achieving contortionist-like poses, often pushing the body beyond its limits in pursuit of physical perfection.

But times have changed, and so has our understanding of yoga. As a "rogue" yoga teacher, I've embraced a different approach—one that prioritises mindfulness and self-awareness over achieving extreme feats of flexibility. Instead of pushing students to contort their bodies into pretzel-like shapes, I encourage them to listen to their bodies, to move with intention, and to cultivate a deep sense of connection between the mind, body, and breath.

This shift in perspective has led to a greater emphasis on the therapeutic benefits of yoga. Beyond the physical postures, yoga has the power to soothe the nervous system, reduce stress, and promote emotional healing. By tapping into the mind-body connection, practitioners can uncover a profound sense of inner peace and resilience.

As a yoga teacher gone rogue, I believe that true healing comes from within. It's not about how far you can stretch or how perfectly you can balance—it's about honoring your body's wisdom, embracing your imperfections, and finding grace in every moment. In a world that often feels chaotic and demanding, yoga offers a sanctuary—a space where we can slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with our true selves.

Thursdays on the Rodina Reset Sessions is my style of yoga. I've never been busier and felt more authentic to what I am offering.
